SALT LAKE CITY, UT – May 19, 2008 – Utah charities can apply for a one-time, $100,000 grant in the inaugural Utah Benefits charitable awards program, created and funded by health benefits company Humana Inc. (NYSE: HUM). The program is designed to give local not-for-profit, 501(c)(3), charitable organizations the opportunity to receive a one-time infusion of funding in order to create new programs or enhance ongoing activities that seek to improve the mind, body or spirit of Utah residents. Applications for the grant are available at
UtahBenefits.Humana.com.
Humana of Utah will begin accepting applications from local not-for-profit organizations on Monday, May 19, and the application deadline is Friday, July 18.
"Utah Benefits is all about giving back to the community, helping to improve the mind, body and spirit of those we work with every day," said Earl F. Hurst, president of Humana of Utah. All non-profit organizations interested in submitting a grant and would like to learn about writing the proposal are encouraged to attend the Utah Benefits kick off breakfast on Tuesday, June 3 at 8:30 a.m. at 9815 South Monroe, Suite 300, Sandy, Utah. Please RSVP to

A panel of local judges, comprised of community leaders, public officials and business representatives, will work with Humana to select the $100,000 grant winner. Humana will recognize the winner at a celebratory fall 2008 award presentation.
