Humana celebrates giving
Louisiana Benefits is one of Humana's Our Communities Benefit charitable-giving programs. Sponsored by The Humana Foundation, the program is an outgrowth of our commitment to corporate citizenship.
Through the Louisiana Benefits program, Humana awards a one-time $100,000 signature grant to a Louisiana-based nonprofit organization focused on improving health experiences or building healthy communities in the areas of:
- Mind - projects or institutions that seek to improve the educational landscape resulting in higher levels of achievement
- Body - projects or human service agencies engaged in promoting healthy bodies and lifestyles
- Spirit - projects or civic and cultural development organizations that seek to inspire communities and enliven the human spirit
T he goal of Humana's donation of $100,000 to a single Louisiana nonprofit is to make a positive, transformational impact on an organization allowing them to reach greater milestone goals.
Applicant Criteria
All applicants must meet the following criteria to be considered for the Louisiana Benefits grant.
- Applying organization must be a nonprofit, 501(c)(3) organization, excluding political, social, religious, labor, or veteran's organizations.
- Religious organizations are only eligible to apply for the benefit of project-specific support (e.g. social services outreach) or funds for an accredited church-affiliated educational institution.
- Organization must be based in the Louisiana.
- Proposed program or project must benefit Louisiana exclusively.
- Applicant must submit a complete grant application package, including cover letter, application form, proposal narrative, and all required attachments. See the instructions attached to the application form available on the How to Apply page for complete details.
- Program or project may not apply more than 15 percent of the $100,000 grant award toward salaries, consultant fees, or other administrative costs.
- Selected finalists must make a formal presentation before a panel of community leader judges. Community leaders will not be identified before the judging.
- Organization must not have received a Louisiana Benefits $100,000 signature grant previously.
- Programs or projects proposing funds for fundraising events, operating expenses, or budget relief are not eligible.
Special consideration will be given to organizations who propose programs or projects that:
- Have outcomes that address the health and wellness needs of the community, such as:
- Health and fitness efforts that lead to better decisions and lifestyles.
- Literacy activities that lead to improved health experiences.
- Development of technology tools and resources that lead to healthy ommunities.
- Can be completed within a fiscal year, making use of the total one-time grant award.
- Will be able to continue with little or no additional financial support.
